8/4/2023 0 Comments Thank you graphic bookWhile my students are excited about using glue and glitter, I don't think the "thank you is for glue and glitter" page would teach them much of anything. I don't think that my students fully understand "thank you" to begin with and this book does little to help children understand what is means to be thankful or what it feels like to be thankful as an emotional state (although to the book's credit the first page says that thank you is for when "something wakes a little hum-a happy little hum-inside you and you want to answer back"). I think this book is supposed to be about appreciating various things in our lives (such as, puddles and mittens and bubble baths) but I think it is too abstract for the age group I teach or perhaps it is too abstract for me. Recommended to anyone looking fop picture-books about thankfulness. The accompanying artwork by Stephanie Graegin is charming, capturing the beauty of each season being depicted. It's also for when something wakes a little hum - a happy little hum - insde you and you want to answer back." So begins author Mary Lyn Ray's simple narrative, which lists the many wonderful things in our lives for which we should say thanks. "Thank you isn't just for learning manners.
